South America 2017: Bikes

I decided to trust my Guerrera, a 2008 Mondraker Factor. I bought this bike two seasons ago and inmedeately felt in love with the agility on singletrails, the stability even on rocky trails, combined with a high comfort on longer tours. With 26" wheels, 120mm front and back suspension its a very reliable bike without too many special parts. All in all a perfect frame for our expectations for this tour.

The next open questions are equipment. As always I went for some Schwalbe tires, of course this time not the Marathon touring version, but the rougher mountainbike tire Hans Dampf. To be more compartible with my brothers bike I changed the gear shifting for a 3x10 Shimano XT

To carry my stuff I decided against a rack, but for the new Ortlieb model Seat Pack, an oversize seatbag with space for about 13l right below the seat. To equilibrate the wight I use a classic Ortlieb handlebar bag. On the front end of the top tube I built an additional bag consisting of a 1l bag for tools on the top side and two bottle holder on the down side. To to avoid, if I want to keep the sporty mountainbike charactaristic of the bike, is a backpack. But this should by mostly empty and only be filled with food and some additional drinks for the tour.
